Cataracts

What are Cataracts?
A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye. Blurred vision caused by cataracts can make it more difficult to read, drive a car, especially at night, or see the expression on a friend’s face.

Almost everyone has at least some cataract formation over the age of 60, but diabetes, heart disease, or a history of eye trauma or surgery, may speed up the clouding process of the lens.

What is the Treatment?
Once detected, the best course for cataract treatment will vary by patient.  However, the general course of treatment involves lens replacement.  This procedure can resolve other vision issues simultaneously, including nearsightedness or farsightedness.

Cataract Surgery
With the latest technology, cataract surgery is incredibly safe and effective.  The procedure itself is fast and painless with little downtime needed for recovery.   During cataract surgery, the natural cloudy lens of your eye is replaced with a special artificial lens called an intraocular lens (or IOL). Modern cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful procedures in the world.

Our ophthalmologists offer the most advanced cataract surgery through the use of the LENSAR Laser System. LENSAR Laser creates a 3-D model of your eye.  This allows our surgeon to customize your procedure and provide you with the best results possible.  Now you can relax knowing you have the most precise technology available to safely treat your valuable sense of sight.

We also offer the most advanced lens implant options to patients. Specialty lenses can do more than cure cataracts. You now have the options to correct additional vision problems. You also have the option for a full range of near, intermediate and distance vision – potentially without the need for glasses or contacts.
